You built a good practice. You have great patient outcomes. Your reviews are solid. And yet, when someone searches “chiropractor near me” in your city, your clinic isn’t showing up in the top results.
You’re not alone. This is one of the most common problems I see with chiropractic clinics — and the good news is that almost every case has a fixable root cause. Here’s what’s usually going wrong.
1. Your Google Business Profile Category Is Wrong or Incomplete
Google uses your primary GBP category as one of the strongest signals for which searches your listing should appear in. Many chiropractic clinics have generic categories like “Health” or even just “Chiropractor” without adding secondary categories for specialties like Sports Chiropractic, Pediatric Chiropractic, or Massage Therapy.
Fix: Set your primary category to “Chiropractor.” Add secondary categories that match your specialties: sports chiropractor, neck pain specialist, back pain treatment center. Each additional relevant category expands the searches you can appear in.
2. Your Citations Are a Mess
Citations are mentions of your business name, address, and phone number across the web — on Yelp, Healthgrades, Zocdoc, Facebook, the Better Business Bureau, and dozens of other directories. If these don’t match exactly (and they often don’t after a move, phone number change, or name tweak), Google gets confused about which version of your business is correct and suppresses your ranking.
Fix: Audit your citations using a tool like BrightLocal or Moz Local. Find every inconsistency and clean it up. Even a small difference like “Ste” vs “Suite” or a missing suite number can create conflicting signals.
3. Your Website Has No Local SEO Signals
Google Maps rankings depend on your GBP, but your website sends important authority signals that determine how well your GBP ranks. If your website doesn’t have:
- Location-specific content (city name, neighborhood references)
- Schema markup with your practice address and phone number
- Individual service pages for back pain, neck pain, sciatica, sports injuries
- Fast page load speed on mobile
…your GBP is fighting with one hand tied behind its back.
Fix: Add structured data (LocalBusiness and MedicalBusiness schema) to your site. Create condition-specific pages. Make sure your NAP matches your GBP exactly on your website’s footer and contact page.
4. You’re Not Generating Reviews Consistently
Review velocity — how frequently you get new reviews — is one of Google’s most important local ranking signals. A competitor with 80 reviews getting 4 new ones per month will consistently outrank a competitor with 200 reviews getting none.
Fix: Set up an automated review request via text message sent within 24 hours of a patient’s appointment. This single change typically doubles or triples new review volume within 60 days.
5. You’re Not Competing for the Right Keywords
“Chiropractor near me” is competitive. But “car accident chiropractor [city]” or “sciatica treatment [city]” may have less competition and higher patient value. Are you targeting those?
Fix: Build landing pages targeting specific conditions and procedures your clinic treats. Each page targets a different high-intent keyword and gives Google more reasons to rank your site.
